Can You Make the Holidays Brighter for Those Who Have Nothing?
This year, no toys will be allowed to cross the border for Christmas. Sorry news! But we can provide these sorely needed items to make the holidays brighter for our brothers and sisters in Tijuana:
- New shoes and socks
- Blankets
- Caps
- Tarps
- FOOD! (protein-based food especially needed now)
- MULTI-VITAMINS (especially needed now)
As nights get colder, the warmth that food provides becomes critical for those in poor health. The families living in the Colonias/dumps suffer greatly during the winter months and often become sick.
Your donations may be left at 6432 Cardeno Drive, La Jolla, CA 92037. Everything is tax-deductible, and receipts are available upon request. We have no overhead, except for minimal fees from PayPal and credit card donations.
Special Appeal in Anticipation of Christmas
The Sisters pray that we collect money to provide a special CHRISTMAS BAG of food and a blanket for 1,500 of the most helpless families.
Our appeal begins the first Sunday of Advent (November 29). But due to COVID, the Sisters will not be at All Hallows Church this year. True to the Franciscan Spirit, Sister Armida is certain that ‘GOD WILL PROVIDE.’

“Maria Sofia, a 56-year-old widow, came to the Casa asking for help. She has great 
need because she has a sick brother at home who had a stroke. Sofia takes care of him. Two years ago, her daughter and husband died in a house fire, and Sofia has to take care of her two granddaughters. The oldest is 14 and in high school. The other is 12 and in 6th grade. ”
“The house where they live is rented. Sofia works cleaning two houses, but is not able to work now because she is taking care of her brother who has total paralysis. That is why she came to the Casa very distressed and in need of help, since a neighbor told her that we help very poor people like her.”
“We gladly gave her the weekly pantry card, money for the younger girl for school uniform, and we are providing school aid. She is very grateful with tears saying, ‘thank you, God bless you.”
The People and the Sisters of the Casa Need You Now, More Than Ever
The virus crisis has added numerous complications and extra costs to safely minister to the hungry and destitute. Thank you for your ever generous and thoughtful help as the Sisters meet these new needs! Your gifts will buy food and medical supplies for the thousands of grateful people who now eat in the patio area, who come to the Bodega for bags of food and who visit the Clinic.
